RELIEVE PAIN

Pain can impair performance through limited mobility, altered movement patterns, divided attention, avoidance behavior, and increased stress.

Pain restricts range of motion necessary for optimal function. To avoid pain, compensatory movements develop, leading to poor biomechanics and injury risk.

Pain diverts focus from proper technique and control. Fear of painful movements leads to avoidance, limiting strength and skill development.

Chronic pain increases anxiety and stress, interfering with recovery and performance.

  • Adjustments: Chiropractors manually apply controlled force to joints to realign them. This can relieve pain by reducing pressure on nerves and restoring normal joint motion.

  • Shockwave therapy: Focused sound waves are directed at an area to promote healing. This can reduce pain and inflammation.

  • Manual therapy: Chiropractors use their hands to mobilize joints and soft tissues. This can relieve muscle tension, increase mobility, and reduce pain.

  • Spinal decompression: A specialized table gently stretches the spine to take pressure off discs and nerves. This can relieve pain from disc injuries or pinched nerves.

The goal of these techniques is to restore proper alignment and motion to the spine and other joints. This reduces irritation to joint structures and nerves, allowing the body to heal itself and providing pain relief. Chiropractors utilize their extensive training in anatomy, biomechanics, and manual therapy to determine the appropriate treatments for each patient's condition.

RESTORE FUNCTION

ATHLETES WHO FEEL BETTER

PERFORM BETTER

The main goal of chiropractic pain relief for athletes is to enable them to return to optimal performance. Being in pain inhibits an athlete's ability to properly move their body and function at their highest level during training and competition. Getting adjustments and other chiropractic treatments can alleviate muscle and joint pain caused by injuries or overuse. This allows athletes to regain their full range of motion, prevent further injury, and maximize their athletic abilities. For professional and competitive athletes, getting out of pain is crucial to stay at the top of their game, maintain technique, avoid compensation patterns, and safely continue their sports career. Chiropractic care provides athletes with non-invasive methods to reduce pain and inflammation so they can keep performing and thriving in their sport.

Let's first decide if what I do is a good fit for for what you're looking for.

SCHEDULE IN-OFFICE EXAM

We will assess the spine and extremities by inspection, palpation, range of motion testing, orthopedic tests, posture/gait analysis, muscle strength, reflexes, and movement assessments to evaluate joint dysfunction, misalignments or nerve involvement and recommend appropriate treatments to improve mobility and function.

30-60 minute movement assessment in clinic

This is where we will meet in-person for the first time.  Time to get to work and figure out if there are any of the physical limitations (outlined below) that may be creating inefficiencies in your swing or pitch!  SEE MORE

I will record the entire assessment.  I do this because it's extremely important for an athlete to SEE him or herself move.  1 - it makes it more real and 2 - the film doesn't lie!  I will then record a separate video analyzing and comparing both.  SEE A SAMPLE

As a certified OnBase University hitting and pitching professional, I don't believe there's just one technically correct way to swing a bat or pitch a baseball or softball.

I believe that there are countless ways to play the game.

Essentially, I strive to align an athlete's physical abilities with their technical skills, enabling them to reach their fullest potential on the field.

Rotation: The ability to rotate effectively allows a hitter to generate power and generate torque, transferring it from the lower body through the core to the upper body, resulting in a stronger and more explosive swing.

  • Stable Posture: Maintaining a stable posture throughout the swing is essential for balance, weight transfer, and overall body control. It helps the hitter stay balanced and centered, enabling better timing, coordination, and the ability to adjust to different pitch locations.

  • Live and Independent Hands: Having live and independent hands refers to the hitter's ability to use their hands effectively and separately from the rest of the body. It allows for quick adjustments, precise bat control, and the ability to make contact with pitches in different areas of the strike zone.

  • Core Control: Core control involves the strength, stability, and coordination of the muscles in the abdominal and lower back regions. A strong core helps generate power, maintain balance, and transfer energy efficiently throughout the body during the swing.

  •

  •

  • Determining if a hitter possesses these skills is important because they directly impact the hitter's ability to make solid contact, generate power, and be consistent at the plate. Assessing these skills helps coaches and players identify areas for improvement and tailor training programs to enhance their overall hitting performance.

Here are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) related to the OnBaseU hitting screen, along with their answers:

  1. Who should get a hitting and pitching screens

  2. Do the OnBaseU hitting and pitching screens assess power in a player's swing/pitch?

    1. No, not directly.  It assesses the ability to rotate,

  3. What is the role of efficiency in hitting, and how does it relate to pitch adaptation?

    • Efficiency in hitting refers to a player's ability to adjust to different pitch speeds and locations. By eliminating any unnecessary movements that consume time and effort, hitters can adapt more successfully to each pitch, enhancing their overall performance.

  4. What are some characteristics that reduce power in hitting?

    • Characteristics that can reduce power in hitting include hanging back, dead hands, pushing the bat, having a gate swing, dumping the barrel, drifting, and losing posture. Poor connection between the upper and lower body can also contribute to power loss.

  5. What are the characteristics that can hurt contact in hitting?

    • Characteristics that can hurt contact in hitting include swaying, losing posture, losing space, losing the base, casting the hands, and having a small hitting zone. Anything that disrupts timing or hinders the ability to swing the bat on the correct plane with the pitch can create contact problems.

  6. What are the characteristics that limit efficiency in hitting?

    • Characteristics that limit efficiency in hitting, starting from the toe touch/ready position, include losing posture, hanging back, losing space, losing the base, having a flying elbow, and pushing. These factors add unnecessary movements that consume time and effort during the swing.

  7. How do physical limitations affect hitting technique and performance?

    • Physical limitations such as limited mobility, poor stability, or prior injuries can hinder a player's ability to achieve optimal hitting technique and performance. They may restrict the range of motion required for certain movements and impact overall swing mechanics.

  8. Are OnBase University coaches trained to identify physical limitations affecting hitting?

    • Yes, OnBase University coaches are educated and knowledgeable in movement screening as it relates to baseball and softball. They can identify physical limitations that may be impacting a player's hitting technique and performance.

  9. How does movement screening and fitness training contribute to improving hitting technique?

    • Movement screening helps identify any physical limitations or movement deficiencies that may be affecting a player's hitting technique. Based on the assessment, coaches can recommend specific exercises and training to improve fitness, enhance movement quality, and optimize hitting mechanics.

  10. What is the normal pattern of mobility and stability in the body for proper hitting mechanics?

    • The normal pattern of mobility and stability involves an alternating sequence. In hitting mechanics, it is observed as foot stable, ankle mobile, knee stable, hip mobile, pelvis/sacrum/lumbar spine stable, thoracic spine mobile, scapulo-thoracic stable, gleno-humeral/shoulder mobile, elbow stable, wrist mobile, and cervical spine stable.

  11. How does limited mobility in certain areas of the body contribute to injuries in hitting?

    • Limited mobility in specific areas of the body can force other segments to compensate, leading to abnormal movement patterns and increasing the risk of injuries. For example, limited thoracic spine and hip mobility may result in excessive motion and strain on the lumbar spine, potentially causing lower back injuries.

  12. What is the importance of mobility and stability in hitting mechanics and injury prevention?

    • Mobility and stability are vital for proper hitting mechanics and injury prevention. Mobility allows for optimal joint range of motion and tissue flexibility, enabling efficient movements and power production. Stability ensures segments of the body remain secure while adjacent segments stretch and contract, promoting consistent posture and reducing the risk of injuries.
